There are three hubs for shopping in the Monadnock Region; Peterborough and Wilton, both in Hillsborough County, and Keene in Cheshire County. Scattered throughout the region are some unique specialty shops as well.

Peterborough, NH

Peterborough is home to some outstanding shopping, from the high design aesthetic at Bowerbird & Friends to the classic stationery store, Steele’s, you’ll find something for everyone on your list and a few things for yourself too.

Bowerbird & Friends: Every time I’ve been in Bowerbird & Friends I’ve seen someone come in for the first time and exclaim, “I want my house to look exactly like this.” Antiques, unique finds, beautiful dinnerware, children’s books, and so much more can be found here. You might be nervous about bringing little ones but don’t be – there’s a terrific treasure box they can choose a freebie from while you peruse at your leisure.

Grove and Main Antiques: Featuring home decor, soaps, antiques, art, and decorative arts, this store feels like your friend’s well curated French country home. The owner, who is often working, is a delight and she is particularly welcoming to children.

Alice Blue: Women’s upscale boutique complete with accessories. You’ll find beautiful sweaters, unique dresses, and much more.

Laurel & Grove: Offers a range of historically-inspired, newly-made furnishings such as settees, side tables and lamps; urban wall art after London street signs; or artfully restored bureaus and tables in a stunningly understated, contemporary palette. Fill your home with the romance of lavender with sachets made from antique linens and ticking, and brighten any room with the work of local artisans.

Dogs on Depot: Shopping for your favorite family member has never been more fun or easier. This specialty boutique in Peterborough, NH offering gifts, supplies, grooming services and even pet-sitting.

Joseph’s Coat: Joseph’s Coat is a shopper’s paradise in Peterborough, New Hampshire for those who value quality handcrafted items and their stories. They think small and local in a global way — buying from individuals and small co-ops so the craftspeople directly benefit from the sale of their creations.

Gray Horse Candle Company:  Grey Horse Candle Company hand pours soy candles in small batches with the finest ingredients in the beautiful Mt Monadnock Region of southern New Hampshire. They also sell beautiful home goods, accessories, and bath treats (fine soaps, bath bombs, etc.).

Toadstool Bookstore: Extensive bookstore that includes a robust used book selection and features a delicious café that is open for breakfast and lunch. Check out their calendar for events as well. It’s a local treasure!

Peterborough Art Academy: This store has two sections, one is Tribals Rugs By Hand which sells beautiful rugs from all over the world, and the other is an art store that also serves as an art academy summer offering classes for both kids and adults.

Steele’s Stationers: Classic stationery store complete with office and computer supplies, gifts, toys, candy, crafts, stuffies, and much more. You’ll buy something you love here!

Keene, NH

Urban Exchange: This is a great consignment shop for women’s clothing and accessories. They are highly selective about what they accept and the often feature a number of items from J.Crew, Coach, Kate Spade, and Banana Republic.

Indian King Framery: This is where framing a beautiful piece of artwork or photography turns into an elevated experience. It’s owner, Tyler Rogers, and the entire team lends an artists eye to every picture frame they design for their customers.

Good Fortune Jewelry: Isn’t it strange how so often we buy new fine jewelry but there is so much beautiful and unique pre-owned jewelry out there? Good Fortune Jewelry has stunning jewelry, and their value only increases. It’s a Keene institution and one well worth checking out.

Toadstool Bookstore: Remember when you’d spend hours in bookstores, letting the promise of so much knowledge elevates your spirit? That’s exactly what Toadstool Bookstore offers, and it’s just down the block from Brewbakers coffee shop so you can really treat yourself to what we’d call a perfect day off.

Hannah Grimes Marketplace: Hannah Grimes Marketplace sells specialty items from over 240 local vendors including fine artists, glass blowers, soap makers, knitters, florists, farmers, jewelry makers, blacksmiths, woodworkers, and many more creative and passionate crafters. They recently expanded their space to include an art gallery as well. It’s a beautiful store right in the heart of downtown Keene.

Miranda’s on Main: Miranda’s sells high end clothing for women. Whether you are looking for something to wear to your next meeting or for an evening gown for that next gala, Miranda has you covered. They also sell high end accessories and jewelry for you to complete the look.

Synergy: Selling brands like UGG, Dr. Marten’s, Blundstone, and Patagonia, alongside bohemian chic dresses and rompers, Synergy is a favorite among locals.
