Just a short drive away (pun intended) in the southwestern corner of New Hampshire, the Monadnock Region is home to a variety of terrific golf courses that offer breathtaking views, well-kept fairways and greens, and memorable experiences for players of all skill levels.

Let’s explore courses in the Monadnock Region. Whether you’re a single-digit handicap or a beginner, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Keene Country Club, Keene

One of the premier golf destinations in the Monadnock Region is the Keene Country Club. This semi-private, 18-hole course is renowned for its well-maintained fairways, manicured greens, and stunning mountain views. While this course caters primarily to members, limited guest play options are available for visitors to the Monadnock Region (call the Pro Shop at 603-352-9722). KCC is a must-visit for golfers looking for a memorable experience without the crowds that public courses can sometimes draw.

Bretwood Golf Course, Keene

For those seeking a public course that offers a blend of natural beauty and challenging play, Bretwood an excellent choice. Located on the north side of Keene, this 36-hole facility boasts two distinct courses: North and South. The North Course features tree-lined fairways and undulating greens, providing an exciting challenge. On the other hand, the South Course offers breathtaking views of Mount Monadnock and rolling terrain that will test every aspect of your game. With reasonable rates and a rustic, friendly atmosphere, Bretwood is perfect for visiting golfers.

The Shattuck Golf Course, Jaffrey

Located at the foot of Mt. Monadnock in Jaffrey, The Shattuck is a hidden gem in the region. This 18-hole public course seamlessly blends natural beauty with a demanding layout. As you navigate through the rolling hills and mature woodlands, you’ll encounter challenging doglegs, well-bunkered greens, and strategically placed (some say “sneaky”) water hazards. Views of the mountain seem to follow you around the course, and with its postcard-worthy scenery The Shattuck is a delightful destination for golf enthusiasts seeking a memorable round. Better yet, after your round you’ll enjoy a great meal and craft brews at the onsite Dublin Road Taproom and Eatery.

Hooper Golf Course, Walpole. This historic 9-hole course was designed by Donald Ross in 1927 and has been carefully maintained over the years. Its rural location just outside the lovely village of Walpole (home to the outstanding The Restaurant at Burdick’s and L.A. Burdick Handmake Chocolates – hint, hint), Hooper Golf Club offers a challenging, uncrowded course with several elevation changes and stunning views of the Connecticut River Valley.

Crotched Mountain Golf Club, Francestown

In winter, Crotched Mountain is known as one of the Monadnock Region’s go-to ski areas. And when there isn’t snow on the ground, Crotched Mountain Golf Club is yet another reason to visit lovely Francestown. Rated the “4th Best Public Golf Course in NH” by Golf Advisor, this course spans 6,200 yards and offers 18 holes of championship golf with a Donald Ross design. Golfers are treated to stunning views of the nearby Crotched Mountain and the region’s natural beauty, making every round a visually appealing experience. After your round, the onsite Toll Booth Tavern is a great place to relax and swap stories.

Monadnock Country Club, Peterborough

For casual players or those short on time, Monadnock Country Club is a fun 9-hole track that offers a scenic and enjoyable golf experience in a beautiful, unpretentious setting. This par 29 layout provides seven regulation par-3s and two mid-length par-4s, allowing golfers to enjoy a short-game challenge and/or work on different aspects of their game. Afterward, venture down the hill into charming downtown Peterborough – a great place to enjoy dinner and drinks!
